All Is Not Well In Cat Land

UPDATE - KY loses at Florida - 60-53. As my 2 readers may have noticed, I have not been posting about KY basketball recently because THEY SUCK! Last place Georgia beat us at home last night. They said it best on the KSR Blog. "I have watched a lot of basketball and I have questioned a lot of coaching moves. But I have never seen a more bizarre decision than the mass substitution to start the second half. For reasons that only he knows, Gillispie took out four of his five starters (leaving Porter) and put in Harrellson, Galloway, Miller and Slone into the game, with the contest close and momentum very much up in the air. Over the course of two minutes, that lineup took a 2 point lead and turned it into an 8 point deficit from which UK never came back. In so doing, Georgia got the confidence it needed to pull through to the end and UK found itself dug deep in a hole that could end its NCAA Tournament chances. Lots of people take up for and try to understand Billy Gillispie’s mind games…..this is one that is incomprehensible to me." I stayed up and listened to the post game radio show and Gillispie had the audacity to attack my buddy Tom Leach and accuse him of trying to get Gillispie to talk bad about his players. "You can't get me to talk bad about my players Tom, you just can't, I won't do that." Right after the encounter with Tom, he proceeded to throw his players under the bus. Although KY pays him 2 million dollars a year I'm beginning to think someone from Louisville is paying him 3 million to screw up the program. March Madness has turned in to Gillispie madness here in KY.

Man, that's gotta be frustrating for hard core Cats fans. It doesn't make sense to me either.

so is saturday an NIT bubble game. What have we come too?

The Brunjes feel your pain, the Gator basketball team is pathetic. I can't wait for this recruiting class to be gone.

NIT bubble game? Can you believe it? I don't even think we can host an NIT game because Rupp Arena is booked during the first round week for the KY high school sweet sixteen. Justin should be glad he is very far removed from KY basketball right now. It has been ugly on the message boards and the local talk shows here today. Even talk hosts who normally never talk sports are talking KY basketball today.

oh my. i have noticed the lack of UK posts as well... but didn't want to mention it. no need to upset further.
i know that Justin's not so disappointed to be missing the close of this season.

I noticed the lack of posts and pretty much knew why. I saw the tail end of the LSU game last Sat. KY came back from 10 down and then gave it away. Unbelievable - esp. at home! So I'm thinking - how does Mike watch this team. Now I know why the FL-KY game was so close - they both suck!!

I'm not here to talk trash, saturday was a good game. But I have to ask, what is with Billy G. The mind games he plays are crazy (as you have addressed on this bog before) Look at the quote from an article in the Gainesville Sun.

“Meeks and I were standing there after the timeout and he said his coach told him not to shoot anymore,” Shipman said.

Why would he tell the best scorer on the court not to shoot??? I am interested in your take on Billy G.

Thanks for not trash talking Mike. I certainly wouldn't blame you if you did. My take on Billy G.? His substitution patterns this year and who he chooses to start have left most scratching their heads. He puts a tremendous emphasis on practicing hard. If he feels you don't practice hard you don't play. I agree with that, but I believe he has gone so far as to lose 2-3 games this year in order to make his point to some players. There are 2-3 players who should be much more developed this time of year but he hasn't played them enough for them to develop. A lot of the big time boosters don't like him either. Add that to his arrogance with some of the press and you have a recipe for disaster. I believe he deserves 1 more year. He has a couple of big time recruits (Tubby certainly left the cupboard bare) and if Patterson & Meeks return, we'll be at least a top 20 team. I think his future lies in the hands of Meeks & Patterson. If they choose to not return, Billy's in deep dod-doo and could very well be shown the door this year - but I doubt that will happen. KY fans get a bad rap for being unreasonable and that's how the national press always spins it. The fan base would have been much more patient with Billy if he didn't make some really stupid obvious decisions. We know basketball, and when he refuses to make moves that need to be made it infuriates the fans. Also Tubby put 3 back to back years together of very sub-par KY type recruiting. That is another problem with KY right now that you won't hear from the national press.

How is Florida's fan base with Billy D. right now? 2 championships certainly buys a coach a lot of forgiveness but are there any rumblings there about Billy D?

I have heard a few people say that they are not too happy with Billy D. but in the Gator Nation we call them idiots! Patterson was a huge recruiting miss and I don't think anyone thought Speights would leave early. Plus Jai Lucas transferred.

We have Macklin in the rotation next year along with Kenny Boyton coming and in plus 2010 has Austin Rivers committed and possibly Brenden Knight. If Calathes stays around we have a pretty good squad coming up. Shippman is devloping and so is Kadji. Plus we have three players (2 big men) injured. And top of that Tim Tebow is on the football team, so I think for the most part Billy D. will be around for awhile.

Maybe Billy G. would have been a better fit at a "football school" where he wouldn't have as much pressure as he does at UK.
