I forgot. Tell me again what I win when Uncle Mo crosses the finish line first.

I anticipated this question and that's why I put this in the first Derby blog post.
"The winner gets a big congratulations from the rest of us!"

Favorites seldom win the Derby.

Rick - don't buy that "congratulations" stuff. I remember seeing a gold trophy on Mike's desk when he won a while back

not to stir the pot or anything....

One year we gave away a derby glass but now that we're not in Lexington it's kind of tough to come up with and costly if we start ordering online and shipping. How about; the winner can go online and award themselves whatever derby souvenir they like? If people start complaining about prizes, I'll shut the whole thing down! (sorry - over-reacted a bit there)

just saw this and had to laugh -

I just checked my rule book and according to the rules. If you only have 1 pick for the Derby and your horse scratches, you may appeal to the people in your closest family (Debbie & Clay) who have multiple picks and receive one of their picks of which they are willing to give up. If those within your closest family refuse to share a pick, you may then appeal to the other members of the family. Person with said scratched horse, must announce their new pick (if they can obtain one) 2 hours prior to post time. (4:15pm Saturday - new pick announcement deadline)
Rules subject to change at the discretion of sweepstakes operator.

After much negotiating, Clay has decided to give me "Archarcharcharcharch" (or whatever his name is). I was hoping for "Pants on Fire", but Clay said that name reminds him of me when I'm mad.

And, one other thing, my addition to the West Family Derby Tradition is to provide the prize IF any one in our immediate family (Debbie, Clay, or myself) wins. I will personally buy some (very) small memento to commemorate the victory AND will also pay the shipping to send it to next year's winner. Hold the applause please . . . Go Archarcharcharcharcharch!

Just jokin there Mike - don't let the stress of Derby Day get to you :)

Actually, I have a genuine goldleafed 1974 100th Anniversary Kentucky Derby glass I could swizzle some Ky bourbon in if I win. We know what they do to my losers - shoot em on the track!

Very kind of you Rick to offer a prize and very kind of Clay to give you one of his picks. Ted - that was Eight Belles in 2008. Let's hope no horses are shot during or after today's race. Be careful of the bourbon, it will sneak up on you.

A BIG Congrats to Mike!

As I mentioned in an earlier post:
"Rules subject to change at the discretion of sweepstakes operator."
I think I would like a real prize. Rick, you have my address.
Thanks anyway Ted.

After conferring with Derby officials, in order for a non-winner to buy themselves a winning prize as mentioned in the aforementioned rules, the winner would have to concede the win and pass his win to a loser. Therefore, in order for me to obtain a prize to send to you, you would have to lose the race and designate me the winner. And, of course, I would have to agree. In lieu of the above, I congratulate you on your win.

Well put.

There is only one Derby official involved in these sweepstakes and that's me. Since your original horse was scratched, I'll go easy on you and humbly accept Ted's BIG congratulations.

Well deserved.

Animal Kingdom blew down the stretch, I couldn't believe he had that much in the tank. I think I heard Watch Me Go mentioned when loading in the gate. But then again, maybe he didn't get in because I never heard of him again

They didn't cover the race in Amsterdam, so I never heard the call, "Archarcharcharcharcharch is coming on strong on the outside" (or something like that). But I would've liked to.
