KY Stomps On South Carolina

This week's "Pick the Margin" Winner - Justin who said 19 and Kacey who said 23. KY wins by a margin of 21 - 82-61 and goes to 27-1 overall and 12-1 in the SEC. The second-ranked Cats can clinch at least a tie for the program's 44th SEC regular-season championship by winning at Tennessee on Saturday. (Noon on CBS) Cousins (19 points and 11 rebounds) and Patterson (23 points and eight rebounds) were models of efficiency. John Wall chipped in 12 points.It was Cousins' 17th double-double of the season.

The arena is, of course, named for Basketball Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp, who guided the Wildcats to four national championships while at the helm of the hardcourt from 1930 to 1972. The "Baron of the Bluegrass" lived to see his namesake completed, dying at age 76 one year after the arena's inaugural season got under way in 1976. The stars must have aligned in a strange way that sad evening in December 1977 when Rupp passed away, for the UK basketball team was out of town, beating fellow blueblood Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse, the venerable building named for Rupp's coaching mentor Phog Allen. Make It 25-1! KY Dodges The Bullet & Water Bottles In Overtime - 81-75

The Mississippi State fans were the worst I have seen. Not only did they give out Cousin's cell ph number so their classless fans could call Cousins before the game and leave racial slur messages for him; they also chanted "refs suck" repeatedly throughout the game and then they threw water bottles on the floor after the game. KY ducked their heads however and pulled out a tough one in overtime. STORY

BO called the KY basketball team the afternoon before the game to congratulate them for helping raise $1 million for Haiti and the Cats go GO DOWN to South Carolina one day after being ranked #1. Coincidence? :)

An Evening in O'Connell Arena - 17-0 Baby!

Tuesday night was fun as I got an up close first hand look at Gator basketball. Obvious differences between Gator basketball and KY basketball:
1. Much smaller arena
2. Gator basketball fans get down on their team very quickly. KY fans stand yelling "defense" or they're up encouraging the team when they fall behind. FL fans only get excited when it gets close or they get the lead. As soon as they fall behind, the fans start pouting.
3. FL's student section loves shouting vulgarities! Thank God I did not have a small child anywhere near it.
4. There only seems to be 2 or 3 cheers that the fans know and all of them have the gator chomp in them; pretty monotonous.

I had a great time! The food in the media room was decent and it was fun watching Dick Vitale, Erin Andrews and ESPN do their thing. Great road win in the SEC for the Cats!
