You might find this interesting. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were watching Kansas playing somebody. The TV broadcast crew was Bob Knight and Brent Mussberger. During the broadcast and usually during time-outs, they would do promos about upcoming games. They did a couple that day with UK and an upcoming opponent. After the last promo involving UK, my wife said something to the effect: Did you notice that neither Bob Knight or nor Brent Mussberger ever said the word “Kentucky”.They would dance around it by referring to that first place team in the SEC or something to that effect but, they would not say the word “Kentucky”. Well,we just watched Kansas beat Kansas State and the game was broadcast by Bob Knight and Brent Mussberger. Guess what? They did it again! At no time did they say the word “Kentucky” during a promo. They would say Georgia Tech vs. Duke and Mississippi State vs. the regular season SEC winner but, they would never say “Kentucky”. Think maybe Bob Knight had something to do with that? Our only explanation was that they must suffer from “Wildcat Phobia”. It was kinda funny, really.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kentucky is king of the Southeastern Conference once again. The Cats won their 26th SEC Tournament championship in thrilling fashion, beating Mississippi State 75-74 in overtime in front of 20,082 fans at Bridgestone Arena. DeMarcus Cousins' putback with no time remaining sent the game to overtime and John Wall's leaning three-pointer over two defenders gave UK just enough cushion to beat State in extra time for the second time this season. While John Wall was running down the floor in celebration, he inadvertently smacked Harris in the face. Hilarious....

John Wall celebrated an Eric Bledsoe three-pointer as Kentucky defeated Tennessee to advance to Sunday's Southeastern Conference tournament finals in Nashville. KY plays Miss State in the finals on ABC - 1pm eastern, tomorrow. The crowd in Nashville today was amazing! We were playing TN in Nashville which happens to be in the state of TN. KY filled the place up. It had to be 85% KY fans. They even shouted down the TN band when they tried to play Rocky Top. One of the TN players said that whenever KY plays it's like the million man march.

The Mississippi State fans were the worst I have seen. Not only did they give out Cousin's cell ph number so their classless fans could call Cousins before the game and leave racial slur messages for him; they also chanted "refs suck" repeatedly throughout the game and then they threw water bottles on the floor after the game. An Evening in O'Connell Arena - 17-0 Baby!

Tuesday night was fun as I got an up close first hand look at Gator basketball. Obvious differences between Gator basketball and KY basketball:
1. Much smaller arena
2. Gator basketball fans get down on their team very quickly. KY fans stand yelling "defense" or they're up encouraging the team when they fall behind. FL fans only get excited when it gets close or they get the lead. As soon as they fall behind, the fans start pouting.
3. FL's student section loves shouting vulgarities! Thank God I did not have a small child anywhere near it.
4. There only seems to be 2 or 3 cheers that the fans know and all of them have the gator chomp in them; pretty monotonous.

I had a great time! The food in the media room was decent and it was fun watching Dick Vitale, Erin Andrews and ESPN do their thing. Great road win in the SEC for the Cats!

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve

For some strange reason, each year on New Year's Eve, I end up watching Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. This was its 38th year. I think this year is my last. I thought the entertainers were weak, the kisses were stupid, and God Bless him, I just can't understand Dick Clark. I have to give him credit for trying and his speech has actually improved since his stroke last year but the show was painful to watch.

With all that said...Happy New Year! Grandkids are coming and we will be welcoming my brother's fiance' into the family. A lot to look forward to and to be thankful for in 2010. 2009 - not too bad - but I think 2010 is going to be great!

Typical Ending To A Typical Season

I have learned to keep my emotions in check when it comes to UK football. KY football is great at ripping your heart out. Last night's game - typical.
On 3rd-and-five and not trusting the freshman Newton to pass with so much at stake, you'd expect Cobb back in the Wildcat, right? Instead, Newton ran a sweep around right end for two yards. At a time when the football gods put victory in UK's grasp, Kentucky had to settle for a game-tying field goal with only 33 seconds left.You know the rest. The game went to overtime. Tennessee won 30-24. And as the ESPNU announcers reminded us at least 47 times, KY has not beat TN in now, 25 years!Hey, but we are going to a bowl, along with 63 other teams. My guess is it will be the "Mediocre Bowl" but at least it will be another opportunity for KY fans to get back on the roller coaster that is KY football.

Big win for KY football fans as KY beat Georgia at Georgia - 34-27! (speaking of big fans, check the guy out on the left) Lyndsey & Andrew came over to enjoy charcoaled burgers, green beans and onion rings before the game. The kickoff was at 7:45 and by the half, Mary, me & Lyndsey were falling asleep. KY was down 20-6 so we all called it a night. Based on it being KY football, the writing was on the wall, right? Thank God I set the dvr to record the second half which Mary & I watched early this morning. Thanks to 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions, KY gets the win and goes to 7-4 on the season. TN coming in next week and if there was ever a season we could beat TN, it's this one. We should be able to secure a pretty good bowl game now. Can you say Chick-Fil-a? Oh yeah - KY won in basketball Sat too over Rider - 92-63. The whole game was a highlight film.

For late-19th-century anarchists, terrorism was the "propaganda of the deed." And the most successful propaganda-by-deed in history was 9/11 -- not just the most destructive, but the most spectacular and telegenic.

And now its self-proclaimed architect, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, has been given by the Obama administration a civilian trial in New York. Just as the memory fades, 9/11 has been granted a second life -- and KSM, a second act: "9/11, The Director's Cut," narration by KSM.

September 11, 2001 had to speak for itself. A decade later, the deed will be given voice. KSM has gratuitously been presented with the greatest propaganda platform imaginable -- a civilian trial in the media capital of the world -- from which to proclaim the glory of jihad and the criminality of infidel America.

So why is Attorney General Eric Holder doing this? Ostensibly, to demonstrate to the world the superiority of our system, where the rule of law and the fair trial reign.

Really? What happens if KSM (and his co-defendants) "do not get convicted," asked Senate Judiciary Committee member Herb Kohl. "Failure is not an option," replied Holder. Not an option? Doesn't the presumption of innocence, er, presume that prosecutorial failure -- acquittal, hung jury -- is an option? By undermining that presumption, Holder is undermining the fairness of the trial, the demonstration of which is the alleged rationale for putting on this show in the first place.

Moreover, everyone knows that whatever the outcome of the trial, KSM will never walk free. He will spend the rest of his natural life in U.S. custody. Which makes the proceedings a farcical show trial from the very beginning.

Apart from the fact that any such trial will be a security nightmare and a terror threat to New York -- what better propaganda-by-deed than blowing up the courtroom, making KSM a martyr and turning the judge, jury and spectators into fresh victims? -- it will endanger U.S. security. Civilian courts with broad rights of cross-examination and discovery give terrorists access to crucial information about intelligence sources and methods.

That's precisely what happened during the civilian New York trial of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers. The prosecution was forced to turn over to the defense a list of 200 unindicted co-conspirators, including the name Osama bin Laden. "Within 10 days, a copy of that list reached bin Laden in Khartoum," wrote former attorney general Michael Mukasey, the presiding judge at that trial, "letting him know that his connection to that case had been discovered."

Finally, there's the moral logic. It's not as if Holder opposes military commissions on principle. On the same day he sent KSM to a civilian trial in New York, Holder announced he was sending Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, (accused) mastermind of the attack on the USS Cole, to a military tribunal.

By what logic? In his congressional testimony Wednesday, Holder was utterly incoherent in trying to explain. In his Nov. 13 news conference, he seemed to be saying that if you attack a civilian target, as in 9/11, you get a civilian trial; a military target like the Cole, and you get a military tribunal.

What a perverse moral calculus. Which is the war crime -- an attack on defenseless civilians or an attack on a military target such as a warship, an accepted act of war that the United States itself has engaged in countless times?

By what possible moral reasoning, then, does KSM, who perpetrates the obvious and egregious war crime, receive the special protections and constitutional niceties of a civilian courtroom, while he who attacked a warship is relegated to a military tribunal?

Moreover, the incentive offered any jihadist is as irresistible as it is perverse: Kill as many civilians as possible on American soil and Holder will give you Miranda rights, a lawyer, a propaganda platform -- everything but your own blog.

Alternatively, Holder tried to make the case that he chose a civilian New York trial as a more likely venue for securing a conviction. An absurdity: By the time Barack Obama came to office, KSM was ready to go before a military commission, plead guilty and be executed. It's Obama who blocked a process that would have yielded the swiftest and most certain justice.

Indeed, the perfect justice. Whenever a jihadist volunteers for martyrdom, we should grant his wish. Instead, this one, the most murderous and unrepentant of all, gets to dance and declaim at the scene of his crime.

Holder himself told The Post that the coming New York trial will be "the trial of the century." The last such was the trial of O.J. Simpson.

Another Good Weekend For UK Sports

Randall Cobb escaped the grasp of a Vanderbilt defender during Saturday's game in Nashville.The Cats (6-4, 2-4) rode Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke to a come-from-behind 24-13 victory in front of a heavily blue crowd of 33,675 at Vanderbilt Stadium, erasing a 13-10 halftime deficit on the way. The victory made UK bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive year. Friday night KY won it's basketball opener as Kentucky's talented youngsters thoroughly whipped a veteran Morehead State team 75-59. The John Calipari era is underway.

It Begins This Friday!

Good Sports Weekend For Cat Fans

UK defeated Eastern KY University in football on Saturday 37-12. It took a while for the offense to get on track and they never really dominated EKU (OVC conference) like they should have but we'll take it. Morgan Newton,a true freshman QB, should be the starter the rest of the season instead of the injured junior Mike Hartline who may return for the Vandy game this Saturday at 12:20 on the SEC Network. KY is now 5-4 and needs another win to be bowl eligible. I personally think it will take 7 wins to get them to a bowl which means they have to win two out of the next three. (at Vandy, at Georgia and TN at home.) Meanwhile, KY did dominate Clarion (Calipari's a Clarion alum) in basketball winning 117-52. John Wall - a true freshman - led all scorers with 27 points and 9 assists in their second exhibition game of the season. It feels great to see KY ranked #4 already and seeing what I have seen so far, they could win it all this year if they weren't so young. It will definitely be a fun season and I personally look forward to huge wins over Louisville and Florida.

Lyndsey, Andrew (HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW!) Mary & I were able to watch Justin's TV in Chas SC thanks to our web cams. After finishing a wonderful birthday dinner prepared by Mary, we fired up our web cams and settled in to watch KY basketball. It worked but half way through the first half we found a more solid stream through Justin.TV and went that route. I still can't believe we live this far south and our cable company doesn't offer Fox Sports South. Anyway, the Cats destroyed Campbellsville, KY 74-38 in an exhibition game. This team has a ton of weapons. It will be a fun season.

Billy Donovan and Kentucky

Thursday, as SEC coaches and players gathered in Birmingham for the 2009-10 preseason media day, Donovan was an afterthought in the day-long gathering. The Gators were the final team to appear before members of the print media, and by then the room that had been packed earlier for new Kentucky head coach John Calipari was largely empty.

Barely a dozen reporters bothered to stick around to hear what Donovan had to say, and only a few ventured over to talk with junior forward Chandler Parsons.

Whatever fame the Gators found from their title years has quickly disappeared following consecutive seasons in which they missed the NCAA Tournament entirely, a fact that Donovan acknowledged Thursday.

"You look at Kentucky's tradition over the years or Arkansas' tradition or the tradition of different programs, I can't sit here and say that Florida's tradition was a great tradition," Donovan said. "We were fortunate over the last 10 or 12 years to have some really good players and some good teams. Now the challenge is to try to get back to that." The White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is "opinion journalism masquerading as news." Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox "not really a news station." And Chief of Staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to "be led [by] and following Fox."

Meaning? If Fox runs a story critical of the administration -- from exposing "green jobs" czar Van Jones as a loony 9/11 "truther" to exhaustively examining the mathematical chicanery and hidden loopholes in proposed health-care legislation -- the other news organizations should think twice before following the lead.

The signal to corporations is equally clear: You might have dealings with a federal behemoth that not only disburses more than $3 trillion every year but is extending its reach ever deeper into private industry -- finance, autos, soon health care and energy. Think twice before you run an ad on Fox. STORY

Kentucky played one of the best games I have ever seen them play. If they had played the QB trio they played at Auburn against Alabama and SC we could be sitting at 5-1 instead of 3-3. Another reminder yesterday of just how frustrating it can be to be a UK Football fan. A ridiculous play call on a 2 point conversion play probably cost KY the game. KY drove the ball down SC's throat using Randall Cobb in the Wildcat formation - scored and then called a pass play with a rookie QB in the game for the 2 point conversion. Of course SC batted the pass down and UK falls short again. We cannot beat Spurrier. We get out coached every time we play him. I can't think of an opposing coach I would want to beat more. Oh well....the first tip is only 23 days away.

What Really Bothers Me About The Letterman Scandal

What bothers me as much as the "light-hearted" approach that Letterman is taking, is the applause and laughter from his audience. They genuinely seem to not be bothered about Lettermans's improper behavior. He got a very large applause when he made the first announcement and continues to draw laughs as he jokes about it. The real victims here are Letterman's family and to me it's as if everyone is laughing at them.

The Madness in Lexington Has Begun

They started camping out earlier in the week for tickets that will be distributed Sat for Big Blue Madness which is happening Oct 16th. Coach Cal says this is the best team he's ever coached.
